Standout Players Represent 10 Schools : Prep basketball: Two girls from Flintridge Sacred Heart and two boys each from La Canada and Ribet Academy are selected.

Following is a capsule look at the All-Glendale boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.

BOYS’ TEAM

Jahmin Assa, Marshall: A 6-foot-5 post player, Assa was the cornerstone of a Barrister team that advanced to the semifinals of the City Section 3-A Division playoffs.

Assa averaged 16.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists a game.

Kyle Barrett, St. Francis: One of the finest shooters in the area, Barrett was selected first-team All-San Fernando League.

The 6-2 guard averaged 24.1 points and 3.5 rebounds.

Jrmirol Duncan, Ribet Academy: Duncan, the Times’ Glendale player of the year last season, had another exceptional season.

Duncan, a point guard, averaged 20 points and nine assists for Ribet, which won its second consecutive Southern Section Division V title.

Jason Harper, Glendale: A 6-6 forward, Harper was a complete player for the Dynamiters.

He averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Johnny Lam, Eagle Rock: An exceptional jumper who is also a standout for the Eagles’ volleyball team, Lam averaged 17 points a game to lead Eagle Rock to the City 3-A Division playoffs.

Jeff Lord, La Canada: A three-year starter for the Spartans, Lord led La Canada to its fourth consecutive Rio Hondo League championship.

Lord, a 6-4 guard who has been contacted by several small Division I programs, averaged 16 points and three rebounds.

Chris Maxwell, Ribet Academy: On a team that had four players average about 20 points, Maxwell was the most explosive.

The 6-3 senior forward averaged 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists for the Fighting Frogs.

Dave Ulloa, Hoover: One of the best shooting guards in the area, Ulloa averaged 20 points for the Tornadoes.

Ulloa also displayed fine ball-handling skills.

Sean Whiting, La Canada: The Rio Hondo League’s co-most valuable player, Whiting averaged 9.5 points a game and was a defensive force for the Spartans.

Whiting was routinely assigned to the opponents’ best shooter.

Josh Willis, Crescenta Valley: The Falcons had a frustrating season, but Willis, a 6-5 junior, was one of the bright spots.

He averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

GIRLS’ TEAM

Berlyn Cosman, Crescenta Valley: Cosman, who was selected to the All-Glendale team last season, was the best player on a much-improved team.

She averaged 20 points a game and was selected All-Pacific League.

Jennifer Dalton, Glendale: The leader of a team that won its first league championship in a decade, Dalton averaged 20 points.

Dalton, a 5-8 guard who was an All-Glendale pick last season, also averaged 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists and was chosen as the league’s MVP.

Melissa Lord, La Canada: Only a sophomore, Lord was selected most valuable player of the Rio Hondo League.

The sister of Times’ Glendale Player of the Year Jeff Lord, Melissa averaged 17.5 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans, who advanced to the Southern Section semifinals.

Debbie Nilsen, Flintridge Sacred Heart: Nilsen, 5-3, makes her second consecutive appearance on the All-Glendale team after leading her team to the San Fernando League championship.

Nilsen averaged 18 points and four assists for the Tologs.

Karen Pearson, Flintridge Prep: Pearson was instrumental in helping the Rebels reach the semifinals of the Southern Section playoffs for the first time.

Pearson, a 5-9 senior, averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game.

Sonya Runkle, Eagle Rock: Before the season, one opposing coach called Runkle, “the best player in our league.” She went and proved it by averaging 17 points a game for the Eagles.

Meghan Smith, Flintridge Sacred Heart: One of the best post players in the area, Smith, a 6-0 senior, was selected All-San Fernando League.

She averaged 13 points and nine rebounds a game.

Kate Stoll, Ribet Academy: Stoll, who was selected to the All-Glendale team last year, averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Fighting Frogs.

The 5-9 senior was named Heritage League MVP.

Tara Walker, Marshall: One year after winning a City 3-A Division championship, Walker shouldered the responsibility of leading the Barristers.

The 5-11 center averaged 11.4 points and 14 rebounds.

Tracy Young, Glendale: Though only a sophomore, Young helped key the Dynamiters’ run to the Pacific League title.

The 5-9 forward averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds.
