Here is the South Coast team:

Melissa Gower, Lakewood--”Melissa is one of those kids who thinks every rebound should be hers,” said Lakewood Coach Dow Lawson. Gower, who is going to Cal State Long Beach, averaged 16 rebounds and 22.5 points. The 6-3 Player of the Year shot 76% from the free-throw line.

Charon Johnson, Lakewood--Consistent at both ends of the floor, Johnson averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds. She also shot 56% from the field and averaged four steals a game. She was co-most valuable player of the Moore League with Millikan’s Hilbert. Johnson also is going to Cal State Long Beach.

Lashon Egans, Compton--”She was a leader and had a great attitude,” Compton Coach Carolyn Montgomery said of Egans, a 5-9 senior and all-Moore League selection who averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds. “She is a very fluid player,” Montgomery added.

Taniko Hilbert, Millikan--A 5-8 junior, Hilbert averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals. During the playoffs she averaged 30 points. “She has the potential to turn a game around at any time,” Millikan Coach Lorene Morgan said. “I think she should be an All-American next year.”

Tiffany Maxwell, Millikan--Intense, quick and willing to work hard, Maxwell, a 5-5 sophomore, averaged 13.5 points and six rebounds. She has become a solid defensive player.

Allison Arredondo, Gahr--The MVP of the San Gabriel Valley League, Arredondo averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds. She is 6-2 and only a junior.
