PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Silva Pitches Mater Dei Past Santa Margarita

Rich Silva pitched a one-hitter Saturday as Mater Dei defeated host Santa Margarita, 5-0, in an Angelus League game.

Silva (1-1) allowed only a third-inning bloop double. Dave Knuff had two runs batted in and Taylor Ivey went two for two with an RBI and a double for Mater Dei (5-4, 2-1).

In another Angelus League game:

Bishop Amat 5, Servite 3--Bishop Amat had four consecutive singles and scored four runs in the second inning against Servite’s Adam Anderson (0-1). Chris Honikel hit a three-run home run in the sixth for Servite (5-4, 1-2).

In the Anaheim Lions Tournament:

Troy 7, Savanna 6--Trailing 6-5 after six innings, Troy’s Steve Friedrich doubled home Guy Pinelli with the tying run and Ryan Russell’s single drove home Friedrich with the winning run in the top of the seventh. Brent Lacher, who also had three RBIs, shut out Savanna over the final three innings to earn the victory for Troy (4-2).

Sunny Hills 5, Garden Grove 0--Scott Remick (2-0) pitched a three-hit shutout and had a triple and an RBI for Sunny Hills (7-3). Kenny Overby scored two runs and stole three bases in the first-round game.

Westminster 12, Riordan 0--Westminster’s David Vergara, Bob Schmidt and Shayne White combined for a one-hitter and struck out 11 at Glover Stadium. Vergara also went three for four with four runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases and Matt Bailey went three for five with three RBIs for Westminster (6-5).

Fullerton 16, Anaheim 8--Fullerton (4-4) scored eight runs in the second inning on four hits, three walks, and one hit batsman at Brookhurst Park. Ladd Brunner went four for four with three RBIs, and D.C. Olson had two RBIs for Fullerton.

Canyon 6, Dana Hills 1--Greg Tippin hit two home runs had five RBIs for Canyon (6-3-1) at Brookhurst Park.

Cerritos 12, Santiago 3--Jeff Shimizu went five for five with three RBIs and three runs and Ricky Cradle went three for five with four RBIs to lead the Dons to a victory over the Cavaliers.

In the Santa Ana Elks Tournament:

Irvine 5, Los Alamitos 4--Chad Baker scored the winning run on a Ryan Jones’ grounder to second in the bottom of the seventh. Mike Seal had two doubles and a home run for host Irvine (5-4) and Bobby Ray (2-0) pitched three perfect innings of relief for the victory. Los Alamitos fell to 2-8.

Santa Ana 2, Santa Ana Valley 1 (8 innings)--Bill Johnson scored the winning run after David Fausto hit into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded. John Larson (3-0) pitched the last five innings in relief to earn the victory for host Santa Ana (7-2).

Mission Viejo 7, Pacifica 3--Jeff Carr had two hits and three RBIs and Neal Caldwell had two doubles and two RBIs for Mission Viejo (4-4) at Santa Ana High School. Foothill 4, Saddleback 0--At Hart Park in Orange, Jason Schwary (2-1) threw a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts, and Rob Higby’s two-run single in the second inning paced Foothill (4-6).

Laguna Hills 8, Diamond Bar 5--Dale Douglass had three RBIs, two of them on a double, in Laguna Hills’ four-run third inning. Jim Reynolds had three hits, including a home run, two runs scored and one RBI. Brian Kessler (3-3) earned the victory for Laguna Hills (5-4).

Hart 11, Villa Park 1--R.J. Simone pitched a four-hitter for Hart. Danny Strapp had two hits and an RBI for Villa Park (5-5).

In the Pride of the Coast Tournament:

Estancia 4, Bolsa Grande 2--Colby French broke a scoreless tie with a three-run homer in the third inning for host Estancia (6-3). French also pitched a four-hit, complete game with seven strikeouts and one walk. Preston Lemmon (1-2) pitched a complete game, five-hitter and struck out five for Bolsa Grande (2-6).

Marina 9, Corona del Mar 1--Nick St. George (2-0) allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked two for Marina. John Scuncio had three hits and one RBI, Sean Connors had one hit and three RBIs, Keith Martin had two hits and one RBI and Chad Benson had two hits and scored twice for Marina (6-6).

Orange Lutheran 4, Santa Fe 2--Phil Matheson doubled, tripled and had one RBI, and Chris Campbell had a run-scoring triple for Orange Lutheran (6-1).

Glenn 3, Newport Harbor 2--Tim Murphy and Chris Carden hit back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning to drive in the only runs for host Newport Harbor (5-5). Glenn scored the winning run on an error in the sixth inning.

Huntington Beach 12, Lynwood 0--Jon Ward (2-0) pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks for Huntington Beach (7-5). Mike Chavira went three for three with two RBIs and two runs scored. The Oilers broke the game open with five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Mike Harman.

In a nonleague game:

Woodbridge 9, Oceanside 6--Jarrett Shawber was one for three with two RBIs for Woodbridge (3-4). Oceanside is 2-5-1.
