PREP ROUNDUP : Garden Grove’s Taylor Pitches Second No-Hitter

Kim Taylor pitched her second consecutive no-hitter and the Garden Grove High School softball team made good use of the game’s only hit to defeat Pacifica, 1-0, in a Garden Grove League softball game Tuesday at Pacifica.

Taylor (9-3), who pitched a no-hitter Thursday against Bolsa Grande, struck out nine for the Argonauts (10-4, 5-0). Pacifica pitcher Jennifer Surface struck out 12 but allowed a single to Cari White to start the fifth. White stole second, went to third on an error and scored scored when Duffy White grounded out.

In other Garden Grove League softball:

Kennedy 9, Santiago 0--Cheryl Longeway (13-1) struck out 17 in a two-hitter and Danielle McLeod hit a grand slam in the fourth for host Kennedy (13-1, 5-0).

In Angelus League softball:

Mater Dei 3, Rosary 2 (9 innings)--Rose Imbriano hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth to score Marie O’Beck for for host Mater Dei (10-2, 1-0).

In Century League softball:

Canyon 10, Villa Park 1--Senetha Thomas had two home runs for host Canyon (13-2, 1-0).

Foothill 2, El Modena 0--Leeann Gonzalez (7-2) pitched her second no-hitter for the host Knights (10-2, 1-0).

In Empire League softball:

Katella 2, Cypress 0--Melissa Benbow hit a sacrifice fly in the first and Tammy Lohmann hit a home run in the third for visiting Katella (7-5, 1-0).

In Freeway League softball:

La Habra 4, Fullerton 0--Sophomore Danielle Ortega pitched her second no-hitter this season and struck out 10 and walked two for La Habra (11-2, 1-0).

In Orange League softball:

Savanna 6, Anaheim 0--Leigh Sager pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14 for visiting Savanna (7-4-1, 1-0).

In Sunset League softball:

Huntington Beach 4, Westminster 3--Danielle Bowman had three hits and April Crosby had two hits and scored two runs as Huntington Beach (8-8, 4-0) took over first place.

In Garden Grove League boys’ tennis:

La Quinta 16, Bolsa Grande 2--Hien Ngo and Dung Doan won, 7-6, 6-0, 6-0, in doubles as host La Quinta (11-1, 6-0) took over first place. Bolsa Grande is 9-1, 5-1.

In Sunset League boys’ tennis:

Fountain Valley 13, Santa Ana 5--Colby Morita and Scott Sugino won, 6-2, 7-5, 6-0, for host Fountain Valley (12-2, 7-0), which is in first place.

In Angelus League boys’ volleyball:

Santa Margarita 3, St. John Bosco 2--Zak Plzel had 29 kills as host Santa Margarita (7-3, 3-1) lost the first two games, 7-15, 8-15, then came back to win, 15-9, 15-8, 15-13.

In South Coast League boys’ volleyball:

Capistrano Valley 3, El Toro 2--Eric Olson had 67 assists, Ryan Benn had 22 kills and Scott Anderson added 19 kills for host Capistrano Valley (9-0, 3-0) in a 15-9, 6-15, 15-7, 15-17, 15-2, win.
