Cal State Northridge, in an attempt to increase its power in the track and field weight events, has signed Marc Harisay of San Jose City College and Annette Noel of Agoura High to letters of intent.

Harisay placed second in the shotput in the 1990 state junior college championships and has a personal best of 55 feet 5 inches in that event. He also has thrown 158-6 in the discus and 152-4 in the hammer. Noel--sister of Garrett Noel, CSUN’s record-holder in the men’s new javelin--has bests of 138-0 in the javelin and 40-8 1/2 in the shotput. She was The Athletics Congress Junior Olympic champion in 1987.

J.R. Rider of Antelope Valley College is expected to sign a basketball letter of intent at a press conference tentatively scheduled for today, Antelope Valley Coach Newton Chelette said Tuesday.

Rider, who earlier had announced his preference for UNLV, is expected to sign with the Rebels. “I don’t think there is any wavering,” Chelette said of Rider’s commitment to UNLV.

Rider, a 6-5 swingman from Alameda Encinal High, averaged 34.1 points and 11.4 rebounds last season.

Tisa Rush, Valley College’s all-state off-guard, has signed with Cal State Long Beach, Valley Coach Doug Michelson said Tuesday. Rush did not visit any other schools. “She pretty much had it in her mind that she wanted to go to Long Beach from the start,” Michelson said.

Rush, a 5-6 sophomore from Kennedy, averaged 16.7 points and 3.6 assists and led Valley to the state championship game.

Travis Arsenault, a left-handed pitcher for Pierce College, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball for UC Santa Barbara, Pierce Coach Bob Lofrano said Tuesday. Arsenault graduated from Taft High in 1988, spent a redshirt year at San Francisco State, played there the next season, then transferred to Pierce for this season. He has a 6-3 record.
