El Camino Is Site for All-Star Game

Many of the South Bay’s top seniors will play in the 10th annual Optimist All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday night at El Camino College.

The girls’ game, which starts at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game, which starts at 8, will match players from the South Bay against all-star squads from the Westside area.

The South Bay boys’ team is coached by Rick Sabosky of El Segundo High and will feature D’Mitri Rideout of Narbonne, Jabari Anderson of Banning, Jerry Wells and Devon Hamilton of San Pedro, Ramon Mol of Miraleste, Chris Hansen and Travis Showalter of El Segundo, Derek Scurry of Hawthorne, Arthur Savage and Emil Moorehead of Morningside, Frank Willis and Ty Merriweather of Leuzinger, Sean Roberts of North Torrance, Chad Heitzler of Rolling Hills and Todd Blischke of West Torrance.

The South Bay girls’ team is coached by Ron Randle of Morningside and will feature Nicole Dietel and Kaaren Iverson of Palos Verdes; Kala Parker of Chadwick; Dalynne Ware and Lucy Niko of Leuzinger; Lily Cabaleiro, Stacie Smith and Tashima Mack of Bishop Montgomery; Karen Conrey of South Torrance; Dee Searle of Torrance; Tina Gross of West Torrance; Bernetta James of Carson, and Akiba Flanagan, Princess Murray, Tyesha Whiting and Jakeena Bacon of Morningside.

Leo Klemm of St. Monica and Lori Pawinski of St. Bernard will serve as coaches of the Westside boys’ and girls’ teams.

Tickets, which are available at the door, are $5 for adults over 18, $3 for students with high school ID and $2 for children under 12.
