PREP ROUNDUP : Woodbridge Collects 23 Hits, Pounds Corona del Mar, 27-0

Woodbridge pounded out 23 hits Wednesday while defeating Corona del Mar, 27-0, in a Sea View League softball game at Woodbridge that was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Woodbridge (17-6, 7-0 in league) had scored 31 runs in the teams’ first meeting. Anne Marie Risquez had four hits, including a triple, two doubles and six RBIs for Woodbridge, the first-place team in the league.

Deanna Black had four hits, including a triple and a double and four RBIs, and Stephanie Euzebio had three hits and scored four runs for Woodbridge. Corona del Mar is 1-15, 0-7. Woodbridge scored 12 runs in the first inning, two in the second, nine in the third and four in the fourth.

In Sea View League softball:

University 2, Newport Harbor 1--Shareen Patton (11-2) pitched the final six innings for the victory and Lisa McCracken and Liz Whiteley had two hits each for host University (16-4, 6-1). Newport Harbor is 8-8, 1-6.

In South Coast League softball:

Capistrano Valley 3, Dana Hills 1--Daniela Hugelshofer (4-2) pitched a four-hitter for host Capistrano Valley (10-6, 5-2). Shelly Smith and Angie White had two hits and an RBI each for Capistrano Valley.

Irvine 3, San Clemente 0--Carly Girton drove in Rebecca Smith with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alleah Poulson in the sixth inning for host Irvine (23-2, 7-0). Smith (7-1) allowed seven hits, struck out six and and walked one for Irvine.

El Toro 8, Mission Viejo 3--Misty Lauby (13-7) allowed nine hits and struck out six for host El Toro. Tricia Bulkeley had two hits, including a double and two RBIs, and Jaime Smith had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs for the Chargers (15-12, 5-2).

In the Angelus League boys’ tennis tournament:

Quarterfinal results--Tim Rodogna of Bishop Amat defeated John Factoran of St. John Bosco, 6-0, 6-0; Rob Keyser of Santa Margarita defeated John Neri of Servite, 6-2, 6-3; Phil Cruz of Servite defeated Kent Policky of Santa Margarita, 6-4, 6-1, and Adam Jarrett of Mater Dei beat Ben Quest of St. John Bosco, 6-0, 6-0, at Coto Valley Country Club in Coto de Caza.

In Empire League boys’ tennis:

Esperanza 16, Katella 2--Mike Hammer, who won his singles sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, to improve his record to 50-4 this season, led a sweep of singles for host Esperanza (19-0, 10-0).

In Orange League boys’ tennis:

Western 15, Anaheim 3--Anand Jethva won in singles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0, for visiting Western (13-4, 8-1).

Valencia 14, Magnolia 4--Hiten Patel and Mo Bina won in doubles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, for host Valencia (9-0 in league).

Savanna 11, Brea-Olinda 7--Todd Merryman won in singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for host Savanna (4-14, 3-6).

In Orange League volleyball:

Valencia 3, Villa Park 0--Valencia (15-0, 9-0) won the match with identical game scores of 15-6. Dan Melia had 13 kills and six blocks and Jon Young added 12 kills and six aces.

In Pacific Coast League volleyball:

Laguna Hills 3, Costa Mesa 0--Eric Davis had 13 kills, Paul LaMott had six stuff blocks and David Kwon had 16 assists for visiting Laguna Hills (9-6, 6-3), which won, 15-11, 15-4, 15-5.

Trabuco Hills 3, Estancia 2--Nick Renzi had 16 kills and nine blocks for host Trabuco Hills (7-6, 6-3), which won, 9-15, 15-10, 15-10, 13-15, 16-14.
