Foothill is no longer the timid, young team it was last season, says Gonzalez, who pitched the Knights to an undefeated Century League championship. Gonzalez said improved confidence is one of the reasons Foothill, which finished 17-12 and in third place in league last year, has won 20 of its 22 games this season and is ranked No. 3 in the county. Her improved pitching--she said she now has command of more than one pitch--has also helped. Last week, Gonzalez pitched consecutive no-hitters, first shutting down Orange in an 11-0 victory Monday and then pitching her first perfect game of the season, a 6-0 victory over Villa Park Wednesday. Gonzalez (17-2), who has a 0.34 earned-run average and five no-hitters, struck out seven Spartans and and didn’t allow a ball to be hit out of the infield. “It didn’t seem like they were hitting the ball that hard last week, but that’s because my infield makes it look really easy,” Gonzalez said.
