SOUTHERN SECTION SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS : Richardson’s Perfect Game Lifts Camarillo

Laura Richardson pitched a perfect game as Camarillo High defeated San Marcos, 4-0, Thursday in a first-round Southern Section 5-A Division softball playoff game at Camarillo.

Richardson (13-3), a sophomore right-hander, struck out the first nine batters she faced and finished with 13 strikeouts. She struck out the side in the fifth and in the first three innings.

Three Camarillo runs were unearned. Johnna Mike scored twice for Camarillo (21-5).

Tresa Peraza, Miki Mangan and Mike singled for Camarillo’s only hits.

In other first-round 5-A games:

Mater Dei 2, Simi Valley 0--Right-hander Amy Godwin (9-4) limited Simi Valley (19-6) to three hits at Harvard Park in Irvine. Godwin struck out five, walked none and allowed only two balls out of the infield.

Buena 1, Thousand Oaks 0 (eight innings)--Two misplayed fly balls enabled Buena to score the winning run in the eighth at Buena.

With two out, Amy Thomas hit a fly ball to left field and reached base on an error. Lianne Ishikawa followed with a fly ball to left that turned into a sun double and scored Thomas.

4-A Division

Hart 4, Diamond Bar 3 (eight innings)--Heather Medearis chopped an infield single to score Cindy Abrams with the winning run at Hart.

Top-seeded Hart (20-4) loaded the bases with three bunt singles to set the stage for Medearis’ hit.

Jamie Dean and Erin Hall were each four for five for Hart.

Millikan 1, Burroughs 0 (11 innings)--Vanessa Williams singled home the winning run for Millikan at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. Erica Renteria threw a five-hitter and struck out 10 but took the loss for Burroughs (11-9).

Brea-Olinda 6, Hoover 0--Sophomore Nancy Evans (15-6) struck out nine for visiting Hoover. Trailing, 3-0, Hoover (15-5) loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but Andrea Schuette (13-5) struck out the next two batters.

1-A Division

St. Bonaventure 13, Montclair Prep 5--Montclair Prep committed five errors at St. Bonaventure. Laura Aboulafia was two for three with two runs batted in for Montclair Prep (11-10).

Moorpark 3, Ramona Convent 1--Colleen Tucker was three for four, including a double and a triple, to lead visiting Moorpark (15-7). Cara Shea and Corri Martin each added two hits.

Fillmore 2, Village Christian 0--Visiting Fillmore (16-6) took advantage of two errors by Village Christian (11-5) to score two runs in the seventh inning.
