The next president of Loyola Marymount University will be Father Thomas Patrick O’Malley, the former president of John Carroll University in Ohio and currently the rector of the Jesuit Community at Fairfield University and Preparatory School in Connecticut.
He will succeed Father James N. Loughran, who has been head of Loyola Marymount, a Roman Catholic institution in Westchester, for the past seven years. Loughran will take another position within the Jesuit order.
O’Malley, 61, who was president of John Carroll from 1980 to 1988, earned a doctorate from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, specializing in early Christian Latin and Greek literature. The announcement was made Monday by Roland Seidler Jr., chairman of Loyola Marymount’s Board of Trustees.
