The Locke High girls’ track and field team will seek its eighth consecutive title in today’s City finals, starting at 3 p.m. at Birmingham High in Van Nuys.

The Saints are led by sprinter Danielle Frost, who had the top qualifying marks of 12.24 seconds in the 100 meters and 25.47 in the 200, and their 400- and 1600-meter relay teams, which qualified with times of 48.57 and 4:02.20.

Robin Snowbeck of University is expected to double at 1,600 and 3,200 meters. She was the leading qualifier in last week’s semifinals with times of 5:16.76 and 11:42.51.

In the boys’ competition, Washington hopes to win its third title in the past four years behind its strong corps of sprinters headed by Sylvester Green.

Last year, the Generals scored 68 points in the sprints while outscoring Woodland Hills Taft, 80-41. This year, injuries have hampered some of their sprinters.

One of the best events could be the 400 meters, in which Dorsey’s Lamont Warren, the defending City champion, meets Amado Coleman of Locke. Last year, Warren had to rally to defeat John Floyd of Locke. This year, Warren is seeded behind Coleman, who had the best qualifying time of 48.65.

The top four finishers in each event will advance to the State meet May 31-June 1 at Cerritos College.
