Comings and Goings Among South Bay Coaches : Peninsula: New high school announces that Garry Poe and Gil Eberhard will be baseball co-coaches.

Garry Poe and Gil Eberhard, the longtime baseball coaches at Rolling Hills and Palos Verdes high schools, will join forces as co-coaches at Palos Verdes Peninsula High next season, associate principal Chris Bowles said Wednesday.

The arrangement will last one year, Bowles said. After the 1992 season, Eberhard will be replaced by Ken Russell, the Miraleste coach for the past four years. Russell is expected to coach the Peninsula High junior varsity team next season, then join Poe on the varsity level in 1993.

Eberhard, 58, coached Palos Verdes to 332 victories in 25 seasons and is close to retirement.

Poe coached Rolling Hills for 21 seasons and guided the Titans to league titles the past two years.

Peninsula High’s other spring sports coaches are as follows: Bob Wilton of Palos Verdes and Roy Wilton of Miraleste (golf), Janis Reigle of Rolling Hills (girls’ gymnastics), Mike Tom and Ken Chew of Rolling Hills (softball), Doug Martin of Palos Verdes (co-ed head swimming coach), Kathi Bianchi of Rolling Hills (girls’ swimming), Frank Akins of Rolling Hills (boys’ swimming), Jim Hansen of Miraleste and Tom Cox of Rolling Hills (boys’ tennis), Joe Kelly of Palos Verdes and Norm Towers of Miraleste (track and field), and Harvey Crow and Brian Godbold of Rolling Hills (boys’ volleyball).
