Cypress’ McConathy Signs With Orioles

CYPRESS — Doug McConathy, a first baseman from Western High School and Cypress College, has signed with the Baltimore Orioles, Cypress Coach Scott Pickler said Friday.
McConathy, a two-time all Orange Empire Conference infielder, helped Cypress win the State title this season. He hit .373 with 10 home runs as a first baseman after splitting time between third and first last season.
McConathy was selected in the middle rounds last June by Baltimore. Had he not signed by Monday, he would have gone back into the draft.
By signing, McConathy, a left-handed hitter, gave up a scholarship to USC. He has not been assigned to a minor league team.
