AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Suppan Survives Errors to Lead Encino-Crespi, 6-2

Right-hander Jeff Suppan struck out eight and walked three as Encino-Crespi hammered out a 6-2 win over Burbank South in an American Legion District 20 game Wednesday at Valley College.

Suppan, who allowed five hits, improved his record to 3-0 and Encino-Crespi improved to 10-1.

Encino-Crespi broke a 2-2 tie when Brodie VanWagenen singled home Kyle Carden in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Burbank South made five errors and Encino-Crespi had three.

“It wasn’t real pretty, but we’ll take it,” Encino-Crespi Coach Scott Muckey said.

Encino-Crespi’s Joe Turner was the only player with multiple hits, going two for three. Casey Snow doubled for Encino-Crespi.

In other District 20 games:

Las Virgenes 9, Panorama City 5--Las Virgenes took a 9-1 lead and held on at Calabasas High.

Josh Morton’s two-run single highlighted a five-run fourth inning for Las Virgenes (3-7), while teammates Tom Hoke and Keith Slettedahl each had two hits.

Starter Paul Johnson (1-1) went six-plus innings before walking three batters in the seventh inning.

Brian Bruskrud earned the save for Las Virgenes.

For Panorama City, Kirk Fellows was two for four with a double.

Van Nuys-Notre Dame 4, Granada Hills East 2--Van Nuys-Notre Dame (9-2) scored just one earned run but won at Notre Dame.

Van Nuys-Notre Dame broke a 2-2 tie when Ryan Stromsborg reached on an error and scored on an error.

Erik Roth and Dave Supple each doubled for Van Nuys-Notre Dame.

Eric Vellozzi (2-1) picked up the win with five innings of relief pitching in which he walked three and struck out four.

Granada Hills East fell to 6-8.

Glendale 16, Littlerock 0--Lance Evans (4-1) pitched four innings, homered and drove in three runs for host Glendale in a game called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Bill Kirk, John Aguilar, Danny Gray and Ernie Diaz each had two hits to lead Glendale’s 15-hit attack.
