Chapman College will compete in men’s cross-country next fall, Athletic Director Dave Currey said.

Chapman had fielded a team until 1988, when it was dropped because of budget cuts.

The team is being restarted this fall to comply with a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. rule that requires a college to offer four men’s and women’s varsity sports.

Chapman’s baseball team will be moving to Division I next season, resulting in the need to add a men’s sport.

Currey also said that Steve Kovatch, a 1982 Chapman graduate, has been selected cross-country coach.

Steve O’Hara, the play-by-play radio voice for Weber State the past three years, has been appointed director of broadcasting and sales for Cal State Fullerton, the school announced.

O’Hara, 38, will produce, engineer and broadcast all Titan home and road football and men’s basketball games as well as selected baseball and women’s basketball games on KMNY (1600 AM).

He replaces John Rebenstorf, who has accepted a job with KMPC to broadcast UCLA football and men’s basketball games.
