Granada Hills Duo Lead West All-Stars

Coaches Tom Harp of Granada Hills High and Gene Uebelhardt of Royal will look to extend the West’s winning streak to five in the 12th Daily News all-star football game tonight at 7:30 at Birmingham High.

The game features players who graduated from area high schools this past school year.

Running back Brett Washington and quarterback Bryan Martin of Granada Hills and wide receiver Ryan Kieling of Crespi will lead the West. Washington rushed for 1,662 yards and scored 24 touchdowns last season, Martin threw for 1,890 yards and 20 touchdowns while Kieling caught 63 passes for 921 yards.

The East is coached by Poly’s Fred Cuccia and Alemany’s Pat Blackburn. Running back Jonathan Campbell of Poly, who rushed for 2,113 yards and was the City Section’s 3-A Division player of the year in 1990, will lead the East.

Six of the area’s top players will not compete in the game because they are playing in the Shrine all-star game on Saturday at the Rose Bowl. Kennedy running back Ontiwaun Carter, Hart linemen Tim DeGroote and George Kase, Westlake quarterback Todd Preston, Royal defensive back Tim Ross and Quartz Hill linebacker Selves Smith will compete in the Shrine game.
