A fire in east Poway burned nearly 150 acres of thick brush Thursday before it was brought under control within four hours by a team of nearly 300 firefighters.

The fire broke out shortly after noon in a remote area near Garden Road and Quiet Valley Lane, a California Department of Forestry spokeswoman said.

Thirty fire engines, seven aircraft and other equipment from the forestry department, Poway, San Diego and other agencies were dispatched to bring the blaze under control, Poway fire officials said.

Firefighters were concerned that the fire would leap across California 67, but a combination of manpower, equipment, overcast skies and lack of wind helped slow it, the forestry deparment said.

No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened. The cause is under investigation.
