GOLF ROUNDUP : Allison Advances to Third Round in Girls’ Juniors

Alicia Allison of Santa Ana won two matches Wednesday to advance to the third round of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in Wichita, Kan.

Allison defeated Theodosia Mazzuca of Santa Cruz, 2 and 1, in the morning, then came back to eliminate Ariadne Pschorr of Venezuela, 2 and 1.

Eunice Choi of San Clemente and Susie Park of Buena Park advanced to the second round before losing. Choi defeated April Packham of Palm Desert, 5 and 4, in the first round, then lost to Becky Biehl, Keokuk, Iowa, 3 and 2. Park defeated Betty Chen of La Quinta, 3 and 2, and lost to Jeongmin Park of Alameda, 2-up.

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza lost in the first round to Christel Tomori of Hilo, Hawaii, 1-up.

Two rounds are scheduled today.

Ben Garner of El Toro has an 11-stroke lead after two rounds in the boys’ 13-14 division of an American Junior Golf Assn. tournament in Bethpage, N.Y. Garner shot one-over 72 for a 36-hole total of 149.

In the boys’ 15-18 division, Ben’s brother, Joe, shot 77 for a 154 total and trails leader Rob Bradley, Milford, N.J., by nine shots.
