OUTLOOK Very few teams have dominated a league the way the Lancers have. Since 1985, they have won 35 of 37 league games and have won or shared in six consecutive league championships. A seventh title is a possibility. The defense, led by Gomez and Huma, is solid. Although they lack size, they are the quickest team in the league. In Fields, the Lancers have one of the top running backs around. He gained 1,416 yards and scored 15 touchdowns last season. The only weakness is at quarterback. Reitz saw a little action as a backup in 1990, and Smith appears to have the edge after the summer passing leagues. But his hold on the job is tenuous. “That’s summer league, with no pass rushing,” Paredes said. “We have to see how he’ll react when guys are coming at him.”
