Blanton wasted no time getting Mater Dei’s passing game going Friday against defending Division II champion Capistrano Valley. On the second play from scrimmage, he completed a 71-yard touchdown pass to Chris Ruperto. Before the half was over he had completed 10 of 15 passes for 273 yards and two more touchdowns as the Monarchs took a 27-0 lead. Though Blanton slowed down in the second half, he finished 13 for 21 with 318 yards and the Monarchs won, 27-21. “This was a true test and I think he did a great job,” Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson said. “He has an innate ability to find the open receiver and he’s just got tremendous arm strength to get it there.”
