PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Robinson Seeks to Play Gary More

Share

Tailback Cleveland Gary did not play last week, but Coach John Robinson said he goes into Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers determined to get Gary some action.

“I intended to play Cleveland in the last game,” Robinson said Thursday. “Having not gotten him in the game, I’m probably more determined to, say, get him in there in the late first quarter, something like that. Break the ice kind of thing.”

Gary’s play has been limited since he fumbled on his third carry of the year. In 1990, he fumbled 12 times. In Gary’s place, Robert Delpino has continued to play well, but there are concerns about his ability to carry 20 times a game, week after week, and Delpino’s numbers have tailed off slightly.

Gary says he was ready to play last week but is now glad he got the extra time to heal a sore right rib. And he says there is no reason to worry that Robinson has lost faith in him.

Right tackle Jackie Slater won’t start, but his sore right shoulder is probably healed enough to enable him to play some Sunday, Robinson said. Defensive tackle Alvin Wright’s shoulder is slightly more bothersome, and he probably won’t play.
