Century fullback Juan Garcia scored two second-half touchdowns and rushed for 174 yards in 16 carries to lead the Centurions to a 20-15 victory over Los Amigos Thursday night at Garden Grove High School.

With the score tied, 13-13, and 4 minutes 6 seconds to play, Century defensive back Joe Loaiza intercepted Los Amigos quarterback Joey Portillo’s pass at the Lobos’ 46-yard line. One play later, Garcia scored on a 46-yard run up the middle giving Century (1-1) a 20-13 lead after Tony Lievanos kicked the conversion.

“I wouldn’t trade Garcia for anybody,” Century Coach Bill Brown said of his returning first-team All-Pacific Coast League fullback.

Century gambled with an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, but the ball didn’t travel the required 10 yards, and went out of bounds, giving Los Amigos (0-2) the ball at midfield.

But Los Amigos could only move the ball to the Century 24 before turning the ball over on downs with 2 minutes 16 seconds remaining.

Eddie Benson scored both touchdowns for Los Amigos, on runs of 14 and 15 yards. Benson rushed for 98 yards in 21 carries.
