Simi Valley 34, Newbury Park 27--Quarterback Eric Bennett threw three touchdown passes as host Simi Valley (3-1, 1-0) held off Newbury Park (0-4, 0-1).

Bennett (14 for 28, 188 yards) found Dave Romines (five receptions for 152 yards) on scoring passes of 65 and 30 yards. He also connected with Bryan Kalbfus for a seven-yard score.

Trailing, 20-13, in the fourth quarter, Newbury Park tied the score when Ken Powell intercepted a pass by Bennett and raced 97 yards for a touchdown. Simi Valley scored two touchdowns in the next 96 seconds to put the game away, however.

Newbury Park sophomore quarterback Keith Smith completed 11 of 29 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 99 yards in 14 carries and scored a touchdown.
