Southern Section Approval Necessary for Oxnard Running Back Mix to Play

Share

Junior running back Lloyd Mix, who transferred from Santa Clara High to Oxnard before the current school year, has been granted academic eligibility by Oxnard Principal Rick Rezinas but still might not be eligible to play football.

Mix, who rushed for 1,092 yards in nine games at Santa Clara last season, had been academically ineligible at Oxnard and has been limited to the practice field.

Rezinas granted Mix eligibility after Mix earned a C grade or better in each class during the first five-week grading period. Rezinas set up an appointment with Mix and his father Thursday evening to complete paper work Oxnard must send to the Southern Section office to prove that Mix changed residences when he left Santa Clara.

But Rezinas said neither Mix nor his father showed up for the appointment, and the paper work was not completed.

If Oxnard completes the paper work today, Mix could become eligible for the Channel League contest tonight at 7:30 between Oxnard (4-1 overall, 1-1 in league play) and Buena (4-1, 2-0) at Oxnard High.
