ROUNDUP : San Diego State Spikes CSUN in Volleyball

Cal State Northridge outside hitter Dawn Krenik totaled 14 kills and teammate Nancy Nicholls added 13, but the Matadors could not overcome the consistent hitting of San Diego State in a 15-9, 15-9, 15-11 nonconference volleyball loss to the host Aztecs on Friday night.

San Diego State (13-11, which was led by Gracie Schutt (18 kills) and Jennifer Miller (16), finished with a .328 hitting percentage.

Northridge (12-11), which hit at a .248 clip on the night, also received 10 kills from freshman Ana Kristich.

In other women’s volleyball matches:

Pierce d. West L.A., 15-1, 15-1, 15-0--Tonya Stenlake had six kills to lead host Pierce (11-5 overall, 10-3 in conference play) to a Western State Conference win over West L.A. (0-13, 0-13) in a 30-minute match.

Ventura d. Santa Barbara, 15-6, 9-15, 15-1, 15-8--Ashley Armstrong had 12 kills and teammate Sandy Ford added 11 as Ventura (14-0, 13-0) kept its perfect record intact in a WSC match at Santa Barbara.

MEN’S SOCCER

Moorpark 2, Mission 0--Stan Gomez scored in the 17th minute and Jason Moss scored in the 86th minute to give Moorpark (4-5-2, 3-2-1) a Western State Conference win at home. John Casarietti recorded the shutout.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Crespi 10, La Salle 7--Kris Behrens scored four goals to lead Crespi (11-12, 4-3) to a San Fernando League win over La Salle at Woodcrest pool. Robby Gram added three goals for the winners.

Royal 31, Simi Valley 0--Royal junior Jack Kocur scored a school-record 15 goals in the Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Park in Simi Valley.

Teammate Mike Radka added eight goals for Royal (19-3, 8-0), which has won 46 consecutive league matches.

Agoura 16, Newbury Park 4--Point driver Jeff Bissell scored five goals and goalkeeper Adam McGinnes recorded 11 saves as the host Chargers (11-9) improved to 7-1 in Marmonte League play.

Westlake 8, Thousand Oaks 6--After an apparent 6-5 victory was wiped out when a re-check of the scoring revealed a tie, Westlake (8-8, 4-4) jumped back in the pool and won the Marmonte League match for good on Mike Wissot’s goal. Josh Millar had four goals and goalkeeper Ryan Robinson recorded 16 saves for the Warriors. Dean Schmitt led Thousand Oaks with three goals.
