Dons Passing on Women’s Basketball

SANTA ANA — Rancho Santiago won’t field a women’s basketball team for the 1991-92 season because of injuries and academic ineligibility, the college announced Monday.
Rancho Santiago plans to return to competition for the 1992-93 season with Deni Christensen as coach.
Christensen, a walk-on, took over the Dons’ program in June and didn’t have time to do much recruiting to build up the number of players in the program. Rancho Santiago was 8-16 last season under Coach Myrond Brown, who later stepped down.
