A Forfeit to Gangs: Was It Cowardice or the Right Move?

The Los Angeles sports scene truly puzzles me.

In the Dorsey-Banning episode, a team refuses to play because the community of parents says “no” to violence.

Yet, politicians sought to win the approval of the “maligned” constituency by appealing to the forces of division. Innuendoes and conjured images of racism captured the politically expedient moment.

What happened to the real issue--unacceptable violence in any neighborhood?

Now I read about punishment for Banning. Didn’t they self-inflict punishment by forfeiting a game and by jeopardizing their championship possibilities?
