OUTLOOK

Sapp’s team might be short in stature--with no player taller than 5 feet 10--but the Coyotes have other ways to compensate. “We don’t have height or much of an inside game,” Sapp said, “but we plan to play pressure man-to-man defense and shoot, shoot, shoot.” Sapp, a point guard who played from 1972-75 at UC Santa Barbara and was one of the final cuts from the 1976 Olympic women’s basketball team, hopes Buena Park can shoot its way into a spoiler role and perhaps reach the top of the league. Masinsin is Buena Park’s top returner, after averaging 12 points last season and earning all-league honors for the third consecutive year. Masinsin and her teammates will have to elevate their game to compensate for the loss of all-league guard Gina Bongiovanni, who averaged 19 points and is now playing at Cypress College. Arakaki and Valeriano return with starters’ experience, and newcomers Pabelano, Hererra and Fields could also play prominent roles, Sapp said. “We’re a well balanced team this season,” she said.
