Marcus Jenkins was unstoppable in Dana Hills’ 35-6 victory over Dominguez in the Division II semifinal football game Friday at Dominguez High.

Jenkins scored four touchdowns and ran for 91 yards in 21 carries to lead Dana Hills toward a bid for its first Southern Section football championship. The Dolphins (9-1-3) play the winner of tonight’s game between Irvine and Pasadena Muir next Friday for the title.

“Jenkins is the great one,” Dana Hills Coach Don Douglass said. “He’s exceptional and his excellent offensive line highlights his talent.”

Said Jenkins: “The holes were there and we just took them. My performance was good enough for this game, I hope the team and I can do this well in the championship game.”

Dominguez (10-3) appeared to have the early edge. On the second play of the game, Robert Jenkins completed a 53-yard drive with a three-yard run with 11 minutes 16 seconds left in the first quarter.

Nine plays after the ensuing kick, Marcus Jenkins scored from the one and Rob Crummell kicked the PAT to give Dana Hills a 7-6 lead with 7:13 left in first quarter.

With 5:51 left in the half, Dominguez’s Adan Vasquez attempted a 27-yard field goal that went wide.

Douglass said the missed field goal was the key to Dana Hills’ victory. He said that play stopped the Dons’ momentum.

Marcus Jenkins scored from the two-yard line with 3:54 left in the half, from the 20 with 42 seconds remaining in the second quarter, and from the one with 11:32 left in the fourth.

“These guys keep amazing me. They are a bunch of guys that had a goal, dreams, and never varied from them. They have just blossomed now,” Douglass said.
