OUTLOOK

Century, in its second season of varsity play, fields its first senior class. But the starting lineup is still dominated by juniors Thompson and Welty and sophomore Harmon. The Centurions got off to a fast start, winning their first three games and the Orange Lutheran tournament championship. Coombs is pleased with the team’s play. “I see a lot more maturity and confidence from them this season,” he said. Coombs’ main concern is a lack of height, and he’s not sure if the Centurions will match up well with Trabuco Hills and Estancia, the taller teams in the league. “We’re small and we’re going to have to try to play good defense and screen out,” he said. Thompson is Century’s top returner, averaging 12 points and earning second-team all-league honors last season. Welty averaged eight points and nine rebounds, and Hamler and Alvarez seven points each. Aristondo, who moved up from last season’s league-champion freshman team, has moved into the starting lineup at forward. Yam, another sophomore on the varsity, is out indefinitely after undergoing hernia surgery.
