BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Desperation Shot Lifts Highland

Share

Failure bred victory for Highland High in a nonleague game Friday night.

After a designed play on an inbounds play failed to materialize, junior forward Brian Burleson made a desperation three-point basket from 25 feet to give host Highland a 63-62 victory over rival Littlerock. This is the first varsity basketball season for both Antelope Valley schools.

Burleson score a game-high 19 points and added 17 rebounds for Highland (5-11), which trailed by two points when the ball was in-bounded with seven seconds left.

After Highland nearly turned the ball over, a mad scramble ensued. Burleson somehow recovered the loose ball, squared up and fired as the buzzer sounded.
