New Charge Filed Against Nunn

An additional misdemeanor charge of spousal battery was filed Friday against Michael Nunn, the one-time middleweight boxing champion accused of punching and kicking his former fiancee.

Nunn failed to appear in Calabasas Municipal Court on Friday for a bail-review hearing stemming from the original charges and his bail was increased from $15,000 to $50,000. He has until Jan. 31 to post the new bail amount and appear in court or a warrant will be issued for his arrest, according to Commissioner Robert McIntosh.

The original charges of assault and spousal abuse, both misdemeanors, stem from Nunn’s alleged attack on Loretha Boyce, 26, at his Agoura Hills home last August.

According to prosecutors, Nunn punched the woman again during an argument Dec. 14 in Los Angeles. The new charge was filed by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office.

Nunn will be tried separately in the two cases, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Loni Peterson. The bail increase was requested by Peterson because the alleged second attack violated the conditions of Nunn’s bail on the initial charges, specifically that he not molest or harass Boyce again.

Nunn’s attorney, Donald Randolph, said the boxer was staying in Nunn’s hometown of Davenport, Iowa, and that he has been unable to get to Los Angeles.

If he does not appear by Friday and the arrest warrant is issued, Nunn faces arrest the next time he comes to California.
