Miscellaneous: Before last week, Grant had not lost a Valley Pac-8 Conference game to North Hollywood in two seasons. Grant had beaten North Hollywood four times in league play in the past two years but suffered playoff losses to the Huskies in each of those seasons. Could it be that Grant (8-6, 3-2) is turning the tables on North Hollywood and will upset the Huskies (16-1, 4-0) in the playoffs? “We have to get to the playoffs first,” Grant Coach Howie Levine said. . . .

Burroughs’ Tommy Mike has 19 assists in four Foothill League games. Burroughs junior forward Mike Merina, returning after a five-week absence because of a broken hand, scored 13 points and had 13 rebounds in a loss to Schurr. Merina also made five of seven free throws. . . . Buena snapped San Marcos’ 22-game Channel League winning streak in boys’ basketball with a 78-77 overtime win Friday night at San Marcos. Buena is 7-0 in league play.

Free throws: Quartz Hill’s Dan Prince has made 33 of 43 (77%), and teammate Ryan Beckstead has made 17 of 22 (77%).

Girls’ basketball: Thousand Oaks guard Michelle Palmisano has scored 108 points in the past four games, an average of 27.0, since forward Marion Jones was sidelined because of a broken wrist and dislocated jaw.

Boys’ soccer: Royal goalkeeper Steve Hambly ran his shutout string to six in a row as the first-place Highlanders beat Westlake (3-0) and Thousand Oaks (1-0) in Marmonte League play last week. Hambly has allowed only one goal in seven consecutive Marmonte League wins.

Girls’ soccer: Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Aasen picked up her 13th shutout as Alemany improved to 14-4-2 and 5-0-1 in the Mission League with a 4-0 win against St. Paul on Saturday.
