PREP ROUNDUP : Whalen’s Goals Help Mater Dei Extend Soccer Streak

Chrissy Whalen scored two first-half goals and Becky Thomas had to make only one save to post the shutout as visiting Mater Dei stretched its unbeaten streak to 17 with a 4-0 victory over St. Joseph’s in an Angelus League match Thursday.

Joey Sisco and Heather Hough also scored for Mater Dei (17-1-2, 5-0-1 in league).

In another Angelus League girls’ soccer match:

Santa Margarita 3, Rosary 3 (OT)--Lori Terstriep’s penalty kick with three minutes to play gave the visiting Eagles (7-8-4, 2-3-1) the tie.

Kristen Martinez and Amy Markel also scored for Santa Margarita. Crysti McIntyre, Erin Fortini and Jen Schilling scored for Rosary (7-5-4, 2-3-1), which was playing without its two leading scorers, Andrea Barkley and Amy Shanks, who were injured.

In Century League girls’ soccer:

Villa Park 3, Foothill 0--Forward Megan Reppe scored twice and goalie Leah Hartwell registered her fourth shutout for Villa Park (2-1-3 in league).

Canyon 4, Orange 0--Kim Campbell and Krista Broughton each scored twice for Canyon (13-4-2, 5-0-1). Orange fell to 2-2-2 in league play.

In Empire League girls’ soccer:

Los Alamitos 2, El Dorado 1--Brooke Davis scored the game-winner 12 minutes into the second half.

In Freeway League girls’ soccer:

Fullerton 7, Buena Park 0--Striker Deborah Hargrave scored three goals, giving her 15 for the season, for host Fullerton (5-10-3, 3-3).

Sonora 2, Sunny Hills 0--Cathy Lozano and Cathy Collier scored first-half goals as the visiting Raiders (2-2-2 in league play) upset the league-leading Lancers (14-2, 5-1).

Troy 1, La Habra 0--Julie Lewczyk scored in the first half and Joy Parsell made six saves to record her third consecutive shutout and sixth overall for the Warriors (7-5-3, 3-2-1).

In Garden Grove League girls’ soccer:

Bolsa Grande 3, Rancho Alamitos 1--Jennifer Miller scored two goals and Kim Drake had 11 saves for Bolsa Grande (8-7, 3-4).

La Quinta 2, Garden Grove 1--Forward Danielle Skinner kicked the ball over the Garden Grove goalkeeper’s head from 18 yards out for the winning score with five minutes left as the host Aztecs improved to 3-7, 3-4.

In Olympic League girls’ soccer:

Orange Lutheran 4, Ayala 3--Shawnna Johnson scored her second goal of the game with two minutes left, giving the visiting Lancers (7-6, 4-3) the victory.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ soccer:

Laguna Hills 5, Century 0--Tara Dakides scored twice and Nicole Restivo, Kelly Robson and Nicole Jolicouer once for the Hawks (4-4-5, 2-2-3).

Trabuco Hills 3, Costa Mesa 0--Lindsay Rogers, Shannon Pickett and Linssey Workman each scored a goal for visiting Trabuco Hills (18-2-2, 6-0).

In Sea View League girls’ soccer:

Newport Harbor 0, Corona del Mar 0--Goalie Lisa Bernard’s 14 saves kept Corona del Mar scoreless as visiting Newport Harbor went to 5-5-3, 2-2-2. Heather Warmington made four saves for Corona del Mar.

Tustin 0, Woodbridge 0--Jessica Montgomery made one save for the shutout as the host Warriors (7-5-3, 3-0-3) remained undefeated in league play.

Amber Nolan, Tustin’s backup goalie, made seven saves for her first shutout of the season. The Tillers are 4-9-3, 2-1-3.

In Sunset League girls’ soccer:

Edison 3, Huntington Beach 1--Erin Bailey, Michele Kaping and Christine Tyler scored for the visiting Chargers (5-0-1, 13-4-5).

Ocean View 1, Fountain Valley 0--Gina Tocco scored with 10 minutes remaining for Ocean View (11-5-2, 3-2-1). Fountain Valley is 2-4 in league play.

In Sunset League field hockey:

Edison 2, Santa Ana 1 (OT)--Lisa Helm scored with two minutes left in the second overtime for Edison (12-0-2, 12-0).

Santiago 1, Marina 0--Claudia Aguilar scored in the first half and Irene Verduzco made eight saves as the visiting Cavaliers improved to 7-4-2, 7-3-2.
