BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Woodbridge Beats University in Two Overtimes

Woodbridge outlasted University, 83-82, in a double overtime Sea View League boys’ game Wednesday night at Woodbridge.

Ethan Twer, who had 27 points and 13 rebounds, scored eight of Woodbridge’s nine points in overtime and made both ends of a one and one to give the Warriors (16-5, 7-2) an 83-82 lead with 26 seconds remaining. University (2-7 in league) had a chance to win in the final seconds but missed three shots.

Todd Loewe had 23 points, including eight in the fourth-quarter, and 12 assists for Woodbridge. Luis Venegas had 23 points for University.

In other Sea View League games:

Tustin 69, Corona del Mar 62--Maurice Fletcher had 20 points for visiting Tustin (18-7, 8-1).

Saddleback 73, Newport Harbor 58--Luis Estrella scored 19 points for host Saddleback (13-10, 5-4). Justin McIntee had 30 points for Newport Harbor (10-13, 2-7).

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 74, El Dorado 56--Matt Kordik had 34 points and six rebounds for host Esperanza (15-10, 8-1).

Los Alamitos 70, Cypress 57--Sophomore guard Tim Lin scored 24 points and made seven of eight three-point attempts, breaking a school record for Los Alamitos (16-9, 8-1). Former Griffin player Brett Pagett, now at Washington, made six three-pointers in a 1988 game, and Steve Carbone has made six three-pointers twice--once this season and once last season.

Katella 68, Loara 59--Brian Carlson scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half for Katella (9-12, 4-5).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 67, Sonora 61--Angel Barrios, Gavin Molinar and Alex Tolentino each had 13 points for Buena Park (18-5, 7-2). Chris St. Clair had 31 points for Sonora (14-10, 5-4).

Troy 65, Fullerton 60--Randy Abbott had 18 points for visiting Troy (5-4 in league).

Sunny Hills 69, La Habra 48--Terry Mann had 25 points and 13 rebounds and Mario Bertuol had 21 points for Sunny Hills (19-4, 7-2).

In the Garden Grove League:

Rancho Alamitos 64, Los Amigos 60--Eric Taylor had 15 points for host Rancho Alamitos (7-14, 5-9).

Kennedy 67, Santiago 34--Jermaine Galloway had 20 points for the visiting Fighting Irish (17-6, 12-0).

La Quinta 81, Bolsa Grande 66--Lloyd Bennett scored 24 points for the host Aztecs (4-18, 3-10).

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 73, St. Michael’s 69--Damian Raibon had 23 points and 10 rebounds for St. Margaret’s (12-6, 7-0), which won its fourth consecutive league championship.
