Garden Grove Coach Jeff Buenafe and Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson, who led their teams to milestone seasons in 1991, have been selected as coaches for the 33rd Orange County All-Star football game July 10 at Orange Coast College.

Buenafe, 36, who will coach the North team, led Garden Grove to the best season in the school’s 68-year history. Garden Grove won 10 consecutive games and the Garden Grove League championship last fall in Buenafe’s fourth season. Garden Grove was 1-9 in Buenafe’s first season in 1988, 3-7 in 1989 and 5-5 in 1990 before its record-breaking year.

Rollinson, 42, who will coach the South team, led Mater Dei to the Southern Section Division I championship with a 13-1 record. Mater Dei defeated the nation’s top-ranked team, Eisenhower, 35-14, in the title game at Anaheim Stadium. It was Mater Dei’s first championship since 1966, when Rollinson was a running back at the school.

Buenafe and Rollinson once played in the annual charity all-star game. Buenafe was a starting strong safety for the North team in 1972. Rollinson played in the 1967 game and returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown to help the South win, 19-6.
