HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Thousand Oaks Wins Marmonte Championship in a Runaway

Paul Foster scored a game-high 20 points and Thousand Oaks High clinched an outright title in the Marmonte League with a 76-55 victory over host Westlake on Friday night. Thousand Oaks, which earned a share of the title last season, outscored Westlake, 47-31, in the second half.

The Lancers made 27 of 36 two-point baskets and relied heavily on forwards Foster and Kirk Pederson (17 points) and center Shane Graham (10). Foster made nine of 10 shots, Pederson was eight for 10 and Graham was five for seven.

Thousand Oaks led, 29-24, at halftime and outscored the Warriors, 24-12, in the third quarter. Foster had 14 points in the second half, eight in the third quarter.

Joey Leavitt scored 19 points for Westlake (10-13, 6-8).

In other boys’ basketball games:

Newbury Park 85, Agoura 75--Robert Fick scored a game-high 28 points as visiting Newbury Park exploded for 57 second-half points in a Marmonte League game.

Sean McKeown added 23 points for the Panthers (12-10, 7-6), who trailed, 33-28, at halftime.

Eddie Corridori led Agoura (15-8, 8-6) with 23 points. Teammate Jonathan West added 19 and Jeff Neimann had 15.

Channel Islands 74, Royal 63--Host Channel Islands, trailing by eight points at halftime, outscored Royal, 51-32, in the second half of a Marmonte League finale.

Junior guard Dewaun Nunnery led Channel Islands (10-13, 4-10) with 23 points, sinking four of seven three-point shots. Fred Gaines (13 points) and Noe Noyola (12 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double figures for Channel Islands.

Four players--Brett Osterhoudt (15 points), Steve Hodge (12), Darren Mitchell (11) and Anthony Young (10) scored in double figures for Royal (10-14, 7-7).

Simi Valley 71, Camarillo 65--Danny Alexander scored 22 points and Gordon Stolla added 16 to lead the Pioneers (19-5, 10-3) in a Marmonte League game.

Four players scored in double figures for Camarillo: Jimmy Harbour (15), David Stringer (14), Jaime Jaquez (13), and Geoff Gordon (12).

Buena 48, San Marcos 46--Lance Fay’s steal and layin with 16 seconds left broke a 46-46 tie and helped Buena (20-4, 13-1) clinch the Channel League title.

San Marcos (11-3 in league play) led throughout most of the fourth quarter.

Fay, who was held to just eight points, scored six in the game’s final two minutes.

Doug Wilder scored a team-high 16 points for Buena, followed by Nick Houchin with 14.

Rio Mesa 63, Ventura 60 (OT)--Jason MacLean scored five of his team-high 13 points in overtime as visiting Rio Mesa (10-13, 6-8) upset Ventura in a Channel League finale. Ventura Curt Vaughan (14 points) made a steal and scored on a breakaway with 20 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Randy Martinez (13 points) and Darien Roberts (12) also scored in double figures for Ventura (20-5, 10-4).

Oxnard 62, Hueneme 59--Jasper Satterwhite scored eight fourth-quarter points and Jason Bell scored with 18 seconds left for Oxnard (7-16, 3-10) in a Channel League game.

Satterwhite and Brian Gallardo each scored 12 points for the Yellowjackets. Satterwhite also had 10 rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots and three steals. Corey Upchurch added 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.

Tony Smith scored a game-high 27 points for Hueneme. Dwine Knott added 15.

Glendale 52, Hoover 46--Hai Tran scored a game-high 21 points to lead host Glendale (15-11, 5-5) in a Pacific League game.

Dave Ulloa scored 20 points to lead Hoover and teammate Chad Reese added 14. Mike Wright had 10 points for Glendale.

Santa Clara 88, Fillmore 46--Junior guard Brian Clark scored a team-high 15 points to lead host Santa Clara (21-3, 8-0) to its 68th consecutive Frontier League win.

After Santa Clara took a 48-15 at intermission, none of the Saints’ starters played in the second half.

Saugus 53, Canyon 47--Steve Tampus scored 21 points to lead host Saugus (12-12, 4-6) in a Golden League game. Josh Hinrichs added 18 points for Saugus. Joe Ferguson scored 17 points for Canyon and Brent Stout added 10.

Bishop Montgomery 67, Notre Dame 58--Junior forward Monte Marcaccini scored a career-high 39 points, including 13 of Notre Dame’s 20 points in the fourth period, but it was not enough for the host Knights (10-14, 4-8) in a Mission League finale. Marcaccini also had 15 rebounds.

Campbell Hall 43, Bel-Air Prep 40--Alex Lopez scored 13 points for visiting Campbell Hall (13-9, 7-5) in a Delphic League game.

Bell-Jeff 85, St. Genevieve 68--Ignacio Castro scored 23 points and Bryan Camacho added 18 points and 13 assists as host Bell-Jeff (19-4, 10-0) won its 12th consecutive game and completed a perfect San Fernando Valley League season.

Jon Hoffmann (19 points) and Ryan McGinnis (18) led St. Genevieve (4-6 in league play).

St. Bonaventure 71, Oak Park 64--Host St. Bonaventure took a 16-point lead into the final period of the Tri-Valley League finale. John McNamara (22 points) and Chris Cattanach (20) led St. Bonaventure (11-11, 2-6), and Rod Tepesano added 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Seraphs.

Oak Park’s Eric Pryor led all scorers with 30 points.

Paraclete 68, Kern Valley 66--Ruffin Crozat made three of four free throws in the final eight seconds, leading Paraclete (12-11, 6-4) in a Desert-Into League game.

L.A. Lutheran 71, Viewpoint 60--Kevin Brown scored 18 points to lead L.A. Lutheran in a Heritage League game at Pilgrim.

Providence 67, Oakwood 59--Barry Dabbaghian scored a game-high 21 points to lead Providence in a Liberty League game at home.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 50, Hoover 45--Jenny Dalton had 19 points and 14 rebounds to help the Dynamiters (19-7, 9-1) clinch at least a share of the Pacific League title.

Hoover (11-10, 5-5) led, 39-35, late in the third quarter.

Santa Clara 57, Fillmore 37--Denise Hamilton scored a team-high 14 points to lead Santa Clara (12-10, 7-1), which finished in a tie for first in the Frontier League with Santa Paula. Jaime Arundell had 24 points for Fillmore.

Palmdale 49, Antelope Valley 18--Latisha Beam had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Aimee Grimes added 10 points to lead Palmdale (19-7, 10-0) in a Golden League finale at Antelope Valley.

L.A. Lutheran 62, Viewpoint Christian 41--Hollie Roepke scored 17 points as the Lions (16-4, 11-3) clinched second place in the Heritage League.

Oakwood 43, Providence 41 (OT)--Oakwood trailed by four and did not have possession of the ball with 40 seconds left in overtime, but rallied to win the Liberty League game.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

La Reina 4, Moorpark 0--The Regents outshot the host Musketeers, 26-4, and freshman Jennifer LaFemina registered her seventh shutout as La Reina (14-2-2, 9-0) clinched its second consecutive Tri-Valley League title.

Goals were scored by Tiffany Varley, Kelly Osborne and Michelle Nuesca in the first half and Jaimie Armstrong in the second.

Oak Park 9, Bishop Diego 0--Angelique Helvey scored four goals to lead Oak Park (13-4-3, 6-2) in a Tri-Valley League match at Bishop Diego.
