CSUN Reaches Volleyball Semifinals

The Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team qualified for the semifinal round of the Asics tournament by beating ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 15-7, 15-10, 15-12, Saturday night at San Diego State.

The Matadors (4-4 and ranked 11th in the nation), were paced by Ken Lynch with 23 kills. Axel Hagar added 17 and Coley Kyman and Greg Weaver each had 11.

In its semifinal, Northridge will meet the winner of Saturday’s late match between Rutgers and San Diego State. Northridge defeated Rutgers, 15-7, 15-7, 15-7, in pool play Friday.

The Matadors lost their final match of pool play earlier Saturday, dropping a 15-3, 15-6, 15-8 decision to top-ranked Long Beach State. With Northridge assured of advancing to elimination play, Coach John Price rested Lynch, Kyman and Hagar against Long Beach.
