It took awhile for Ocean View’s offense to get going against Servite in the first round of the Southern Section Division 4-A boys’ soccer playoffs Friday at Ocean View.
But after a scoreless first half, the Seahawks scored twice in the opening 24 minutes of the second half to beat the Friars, 2-1.
Ocean View (19-4-3), the No. 1 seed in 4-A, advances to the second round Friday against Mira Costa, a 1-0 winner over Newbury Park, at a site to be determined.
“I think we were a little rusty from the week off,” Ocean View Coach Paul Kollar said. “Our passing was a little off in the first half and we missed some opportunities I thought we should have scored on.”
The Seahawks got into sync quickly in the second half, opening a 1-0 lead on Ryan Schomberg’s goal at the 5-minute 40-second mark. Schomberg scored off a centering pass from Chris Martin, who maneuvered behind the left side of the Servite defense.
Ocean View made it 2-0 on Daniel Tomlin’s goal from 10 yards out at the 23:20 mark.
The Seahawks almost got their 11th shutout in 13 games, but Shawn Parchan scored for Servite (12-6-2) with 30 seconds left.
