CSUN Beats San Jose in 3-Hit Shutout

Share

Right-hander Kevin Kloek threw a three-hit shutout for his second complete-game victory in less than a week as the Cal State Northridge baseball team beat visiting San Jose State, 6-0, Sunday, to conclude a three-game sweep of the Spartans.

Kloek, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound junior transfer from Citrus College, was nearly flawless as he struck out 11 and did not walk a batter in a 97-pitch effort. Coupled with his 9-2 win over USC on Tuesday, Sunday’s effort gave Kloek (2-0) 23 strikeouts and no walks in 18 innings.

Northridge, which was won four straight after an 0-4 start, built a 4-0 lead in the fifth when senior first baseman Mike Solar blasted his fourth homer of the season with a man aboard off San Jose State starter Dave Sick (1-1).

Scott Richardson, Andy Hodgins, Kyle Washington and Greg Shepard collected two hits apiece to lead a 13-hit CSUN attack. Kloek’s complete game was Northridge’s sixth in a row.

San Jose State fell to 4-4.
