WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Losing Streak Ends at 15
The UC Irvine women’s basketball team won for the first time since December, defeating San Jose State, 72-68, Thursday in a Big West Conference game at the Bren Center.
San Jose State’s Pam Pember missed two short shots in the final 25 seconds and the Anteaters (5-20, 1-15 in conference) stopped their 15-game losing streak.
In another Big West Conference women’s basketball game:
Pacific 70, Cal State Fullerton 69--Claudette Jackson scored 27 points, giving her 1,117 in two seasons. She became the 10th person in Fullerton history to score 1,000 points.
In the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s tournament:
Cal Poly Pomona 74, Chapman 55--Pomona (22-5) broke it open with a 16-0 run that gave it a 33-14 lead with 6 minutes 18 seconds left in the first half and the visiting Panthers (12-16) never got closer than 17.
