HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER : Torrey Pines Advances to Final

Share

The Torrey Pines boys’ soccer team, almost unheralded despite its top billing in the San Diego Section Division II playoffs, advanced to its first section final since 1987 with a 1-0 semifinal victory over Sweetwater on Saturday at San Pasqual High.

Senior Andy Strasner scored the lone goal for the Falcons (25-1-2) but it was enough as the Red Devils managed only five shots on goal.

Torrey Pines, which recorded its 16th shutout of the season, has allowed only 13 goals in 28 games.

This was the eighth 1-0 match of the season for Torrey Pines, the Palomar League champs.

Sweetwater, which was runner-up to Valhalla in the Division II finals last year, finished 11-8-7.

The Section finals are next Saturday.
