OUTLOOK
Laguna Hills has dominated this league the last four years, losing only five league games in Tereschuk’s two seasons with the team. The Hawks are trying for their fifth consecutive league title after sharing the championship with Estancia last season. And they have the depth and experience to repeat. The Hawks return more starters than any other team in the league, including all-league players Pierson, Messinger, Nista and Gillen. Laguna Hills is the league’s best offensive team. Messinger hit .373 and Cosgrove batted .385 last season. Pierson, a three-year varsity starter, hit .341 last season, and Nista batted .349. Nista also had a 3-3 record and a 1.63 earned-run average last season. Tereschuk plans to work several others into the rotation, including Pierson, Gillen, Bonas, Johnson, Garriott and Miller. “I think we could be pretty good if we get some pitching,” Tereschuk said. “But the other five teams in the league are all much improved.”
