OUTLOOK

Neither the Olympic League nor anybody else was kind to the Eagles last year, but Zippi figures the team will be much improved this time around. “Our goal is to be a playoff team,” said Zippi, now in his 12th season at Capistrano Valley Christian. “We have strong senior leadership to help us do so. This team has good chemistry and will be tough.” It also has a couple of standout returning pitchers in Adissi and Wilson. “We have a lot of pitching prospects,” Zippi said. “We’ll find out what they can do. Potentially, we have a lot of good arms.” Adissi and Wilson will share duties at shortstop when the other pitches, and Bishop, who is up from junior varsity, will handle second base. And with Susag behind the plate and Birtwell in center field, Zippi says the Eagles will be strong up the middle. “I envision us being a pretty good defensive team,” Zippi said. Rodriguez, who has speed, returns in the outfield with a new look. “He’s very fast, so we are trying to make him a switch hitter,” Zippi said. And what about the offense? “We’ll try to produce a run here and there and drive you crazy,” Zippi said.
