SOUTHERN SECTION 2-A BOYS’ SOCCER PLAYOFFS

In another boys’ 2-A match:

Los Alamitos 3, Santa Maria 2--Too much dribbling, too little passing and Santa Maria found itself down, 2-0, to host Los Alamitos at halftime.

Los Alamitos scored again at the start of the second half and held on to defeat Santa Maria to advance to the final against Anaheim at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cerritos Gahr High.

The wet Los Alamitos field hampered play. “That was a major factor for both teams,” said Griffin Coach Jerry Stowell.

Five minutes into the game, a corner kick went past the Santa Maria defenders, and Los Alamitos midfielder Anthony Rosa, all alone in front of the goal, shot the ball into the center of the net.

Twenty minutes later, Pat Lee passed the ball in front of the goal. Santa Maria goalie Brent Rogers came out, slipped and fell, and Rosa shot the ball into an empty net.

Just after the second half started, with Santa Maria defenders drawn out, Claudio Ingrassia scored from the right side.
