LOS ANGELES — Harvard Westlake High has become a house of horrors for Brethren Christian Coach Richard Thomas.
A year ago, Brentwood held Thomas’ Warriors to 22% shooting and clubbed Brethren Christian by 28 points at Harvard Westlake in a Southern Section Division V-AA semifinal game.
Tuesday night, Thomas returned to the scene of the crime for a V-AA semifinal against North Hollywood Campbell Hall.
Campbell Hall held Brethren Christian to 30% field-goal shooting and defeated the Warriors, 44-36, to advance to Friday’s final against Faith Baptist.
The first half was a nightmare for Olympic League-champion Brethren Christian (25-3). The Warriors shot just 19% from the field and trailed, 25-12, at halftime.
But the Warriors rallied in the third period, outscoring Campbell Hall, 19-5, in the quarter to take a 31-30 lead on Tim Osborn’s three-point shot just before the buzzer.
Campbell Hall, the Delphic League’s No. 3 representative, regained the momentum in the fourth quarter behind senior guard Austin McKeller, who scored six consecutive points to break a 35-35 tie and give the Vikings (18-9) the lead for good.
McKeller finished with a game-high 14 points--eight in the fourth period. C.J. Thompkins added 12 points for the Vikings. Chiron Hart led Brethren Christian with 13 points. Osborn added 12.
