Bloomingdale takes over as Rosary’s coach after three seasons as the junior varsity coach at Sunny Hills. “I’m still evaluating our talent, so it’s hard to say how we’ll do, but I like the enthusiasm,” Bloomingdale said. “This was a young team last year that was good defensively, and with a little more maturity, we should be even better on defense.” Rosary’s top athlete is Walsh, whom Bloomingdale says has excellent lateral movement and a good arm. Walsh, who hit .314 last year, is also the team’s top pitcher. Also back is infielder Polnaszek, who hit .233 last year and might also pitch this year. The Royals were weak offensively last year, a problem Bloomingdale knows Rosary must solve to compete for the league title. “Lack of offensive punch hurt us last year, and we definitely hope to change that aspect this year,” he said. “Since we’ve got several players with experience back, the potential is good.” Kay, Luna and Sportsman will anchor the infield with Walsh, and Glass returns at catcher. Peterson and Finnegan provide experience in the outfield.
