OUTLOOK
Dana Hills is trying to recover from a season it would like to forget; it finished in fifth place with a 2-8 record. The Dolphins have 10 returning players, including seven starters, to give Crapo, in his first year as softball coach, some reason for optimism. Dana Hills will miss pitcher Staci Cox, a second-team all-league performer, and outfielder Amy Kroeger, a first-team all-league player. But Crapo is more positive about the players returning, including catcher Caldwell, shortstop Buchanan and pitcher Manley. Manley has good velocity and Perez is a good placement pitcher. Dana Hills suffered one setback when Suzanne Dowling, the junior varsity’s MVP, elected not to play so she could concentrate on academics. Crapo says his team will be improved defensively, but hitting and team speed are questionable. With a better team attitude and desire, Dana Hills figures to be improved but still might find it difficult to crack the league’s upper echelon of El Toro, Irvine and Mission Viejo and reach the playoffs.
