OUTLOOK

With three all-league players back and 11 lettermen returning, the Barons should again contend for the league championship. Last year, Fountain Valley advanced to the Southern Section 5-A semifinals after tying with Huntington Beach for the league title. “We expect to be very competitive again this year,” Baker said. “Our defense is solid and the bench is the deepest and the best it has ever been.” Leading the way is Allchin, a first-team all-league selection last year. Allchin hit .311 as a sophomore, and will be counted on to help offset the loss of three-time all-Southern Section shortstop Shannon Dolan, who hit .375 last year. The other all-leaguers back are Kravik, who had six game-winning runs batted in last year, and Lovetro, who hit .282. Baker hopes the pitching, which is inexperienced, will continue to progress.
