OUTLOOK

The first inning should be a productive one for Ocean View all season, because the Seahawks have a top leadoff hitter in Dacquisto. Last year, she was Ocean View’s MVP and a first-team all-Southern Section, all-Orange County and all-league choice after hitting .478. “She’s the key to our offense,” Oakley said. “Teams will have their hands full trying to keep her off base.” Dowlin, another first-team all-league selection, is expected to handle some of the Seahawks’ pitching. Dowlin, who hit .343 last year with 20 runs batted in, also had a 0.33 earned-run average with 46 strikeouts in spot duty. Ocean View has several versatile players, including Avalos, Lawson, Burbridge, Polk and Sansone. Sansone is a good contact hitter, while Burbridge will add speed to the lineup. Freshman pitchers Ponce and Wilson are also expected to help the Seahawks right away. “They’ve both got the tools and experience to make an immediate impact,” Oakley said. “They’ve both played competitive club softball.” The Seahawks were picked by the league coaches as a contender in the league title race.
